This is quite an interesting thread, but does have a hint of "Anti-vaxxer" logic in it.
The environmental impact of manufacturing EVs and Novonix' DPMG is the very reason I bought into NVX. This company has lots of potential products that could become very profitable, but DPMG is what could make it a top company.
What do consumers want? Cheap, reliable products. Some consumers, ones who can afford a more expensive, more reliable product, will also want the bragging rights and dinner conversations where they can say they are saving the world and their purchase is ethically sourced and made and is made in a sustainable manner. These latter consumers are the people who buy Teslas (Tesla don't make cheap products for the masses).
What do corporations want? Money. They only care about the environment if consumers of their products care. Tesla will care.
On BD, Tesla will announce something like higher capacity for same size or longer lasting MMBs or simply much cheaper batteries. Whatever they announce, other companies will have to try to match it.
Among the things Tesla will have to disclose on BD is the ethical, sustainable and environmentally friendly nature of their supply chain and manufacturing processes.
Whether Tesla uses Maxell and Dahn's techniques (the obvious choice) to make clean batteries, DPMG could match or even potentially improve on the process for other companies.
Regardless, Novonix is better positioned than most up-and-coming battery technology or material supply companies. Using DPMG either in house or via royalties, can make cathode or anode particles cheaper and cleaner.
