One more time, many people are not given adequate knowledge and critical thinking skills to understand even the basics of any science. Education is a right, and the lack of it can easily be a form of disenfranchisement. Why?
It's hard to know why you should trust scientists or doctors if you don't understand a lot of science and medicine. And when you don't know any better, that may manifests itself as a distrust of vaccinations or cancer treatments or whatever is beyond your understanding.
That is when fear becomes an effective political and marketing tool.
