Purpose of travel


The key objective of my trip was to build relationships with current and prospective investors, major trading partners, and government and industry representatives in Japan and the Republic of Korea.


Meetings with key infrastructure and energy companies in both Japan and the Republic of Korea provided a forum to discuss opportunities for developing Victoria's brown coal resources.


Kyushu Electric Power Company (KEPCO). The State of Victoria and KEPCO have collaborated on research and development (R&D) projects for converting Victorian brown coal to value-added products.


Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to discuss Victoria's brown coal strategy. ANRE is responsible for developing policies for the Japanese Government in energy and natural resources.


Japan Coal Energy Centre (JCOAL). JCOAL is a significant research, development and training organisation, focusing on the supply and utilisation of coal resources, which has been working collaboratively on R&D with the Victorian Government and Brown Coal Innovation Australia (BCIA).


Mitsui. Mitsui is the parent company for Mitsui & Co (Australia) Ltd (MCA) which has been operating in Australia for over 110 years and covers a wide range of business areas, including iron ore, coal, mineral and energy resources, infrastructure, construction, machineries, chemical and food.


Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI). KHI has been working on a pre-feasibility study to develop hydrogen.
