Shouldn't be seen as speaking with any authority, but Toyota have, as you have noted, talked in terms of providing a hybrid option on all (or perhaps, most of) their models (they already have 2 Lexus varieties). This was before the rush to Li.
Toyota have been conservative in moving to Li. Last year they extended their warranty on the NiMH batteries (back dated for all models), and now doubt wanted to see that Li batteries can achieve similar reliability. They have announce the PHEV version of the Prius will be using Li batteries.
Having moved to Li, there would be no reason for them to maintain two battery technologies for new products.
Seeing as the Prius has been the best selling car in Japan for quite a few months now, I suspect that Toyota's consumption alone would be sufficient to give a boost the the Li market place.
