I see the structural headwinds as rot has set into management, typical of the mining industry. For too long orica have promoted due to who you were mates with and how well you played politics, now they have wastes of space leading. Not too much to look forward too until mining rebounds. Such a waste as the products they sell are fantastic. You can’t even get them to return a call for a quote, too important to talk to customers.
Their engineers are a waste of space in general with a couple of decent ones hiding for fear of being branded competent. Ask them and they will tell you they are cream of the crop, unfortunately the crops gone bad all the way back to the school of mines, telling them they are the leaders of the industry when you wouldn’t promote them to captain of the b grade basketball team. And the culture at the school of mines, drugs, binge drinking, what a shit show.
Orica is a barometer of what’s gone wrong with the mining industry in general, too much talentless promotion and self-congratulating back slapping.
