Equities received a lift after President Donald Trump suggested a trade deal with China could still arrive in the next few weeks.
He later tweeted on Tuesday that "when the time is right we will make a deal with China."
Investors have been rattled by trade tensions after both Washington and Beijing levied tariffs on each other recently.
