Robb i cut my teeth trading specs , the best way to get on those breakaway gaps is got on em before the break . i used to look at hundreds of charts everyday looking for stocks (either a scan or visual) creeping up on rising volume , often signs of accumulation on pending news (insider) . now once one of these had the breakaway my golden rule was as soon as price went below previous days low i was out and stayed out . another method was to use the 50% level of previous days bar as a form of stop loss . if you are not decisive specs are not for you . as you state very emotional things to trade . its pretty easy to set up a set of rules to take a lot of the emotion out . might be something for others to ponder on this thread
