Thanks for the explanation Martin Gifford, now I have something new to add to my mental list … be aware of end of quarter window dressing, use as a buying opportunity.

Does the end of quarter window dressing typically result in falls the 1st day of the month, or perhaps gains on some occasions. I postulate that gains could come when funds lock in realised profits on say 31-Mar to look good in their portfolio reports, then but the same stocks back again on 1-Apr.

I was previously aware of EOFY tax loss selling and wash trades, but in my past trading life I preferred to sell my long holds (as opposed to my trading stocks) on 1-Jul rather than sell on 30-Jun so that my profits would be deferred to the following financial year for tax assessment. However, from now on I might simply declare myself a gambler like the horse race betting ‘professionals’ that do not pay tax on their gambling profits.

    You stated:

“I've never found anything reliable. I just get a balance of info and compare it to overnight moves. Then I wait for excessive moves and then bet in the other direction. “

Hence, presumably you are a day trader? I have observed quite a few excellent day trading opportunities recently, with NCM in particular, but unfortunately I have not been around to take advantage.
