WEDNESDAY - ups generally across the board for my longs, HVN in particular is going very well
I think HVN is being helped along by takeover talk in the retail sector - actual and speculation, in the case of JBH..... although the market is fairly positive about retail at the moment, and so am I with $A still fairly high.
GOLD was down sharply o/night to approx. $US 1303 which was going to affect my large long position on MML, so in what I thought was a very creative manoeuvre I took out a number of short positions on some MML and some other gold stocks, ...... it was looking like a brilliant move for a while as the gains here were partly covering my loss on the long position - but then my shorts came back and rather than accumulate a further loss I got out at about evens.... while I had sold down MML at reasonable best price it still amounted to a sizable loss..... yesterday, a 1.5 hr. crash of the commsec site and visiting grandkids had distracted me and allowed the price to get away... also the other confusing thing yesterday was that even though gold had stayed well up @ 1326 for most of the day MML dropped quite a bit.
