Tradie Shortage...Who was it that gutted TAFE?, page-20

TAFE became a retirement village for ex politicians and their sidekicks ..... much likeTelstra at the time. That introduced toxic cultures within and payback by ruling politcians without.

The real problem with shortage is:

    1) there are too many other, less onerous avenues for young people to earn or suck a quid from
    2) the days of the institutional industries including thorough apprentice training regimes are no longer
    3) the frenetic pace of install and repair these days means the apprentice is pushed from day one without a balanced learning environment; disillusionism explains the high % dropout rate
    4) high schools are stripping out manual arts rooms because kosher males are no longer welcome as teachers

However, one good thing about vocational training in schools and without is that it provides a direct pathway into universities, meaning hands on experience and tertiary innovation.
