Is not the hours per square meter going to be dependent on several factors , ie building a big shed type house with long run iron cladding with a kitchenette and simple bathroom is going to be a lot cheaper per square meter than a small two level architecturally designed home with marble counter tops ?

I did a small reno recently , was surprised how cheap it worked out at , I think a lot of builders do a lot of unnecessary work , due to designs by engineers and architects that do not consider the fastest and lowest cost construction methods available , ie half trusses supported on a mid wall or mid rafter , can often be installed without a crane being needed compared to alternative full trusses or rafters .
If the engineers worked more with the pre made truss and framing companies who have some great software and knowledge it would save a lot of time for builders .

Similar with new fully supported baths that can be installed without needing to use a shell to be built to sit in , also looks better.
Some things seem to be going backwards though ie the toilets that have the cistern all in one with the toilet , get a leak between the cistern and toilet and have to replace the total toilet .

I am thinking of a new build currently , mainly due to medical reasons likely in the future , want a heated floor and easy access bathroom and kitchen , hard to get that unless custom built .
