Good luck with the properly designed house being cheaper
I designed one house where all the plumbing was adjacent and all the power points were also grouped on opposite side of the walls, ceiling lights were on the walls not in the centre of the room
It was all super efficient without any loss of usefulness
When I got quotes it was
X number of PP = $
X number of roof lights = $
X number of water fittings = $
So when I queried this I was told, like it or lump it, I do not have time to calculate each fitting cost
Coming from an engineering background I have realized that the building industry from the laws/legislation down is still in the dark ages, and with skills also disappearing it will stay that way
In engineering I would work to 1 or 2 thousands of an inch (The thickness of a film of light oil) but in building as long as it does not fall apart it's OK
