BHP sold the South African operations to RIV as they were considered too small for BHP to deliver. Interestingly, RIV managed to pay nothing for those assets as by the time payment was made the stockpile value was greater than the selling price.
I think BHP may have had some involvement in RIV's Mozambique tenements in the 80s as well, although they were not the vendor to RIV.
CDS cannot really be seriously compared to RIV at this stage but clearly the mc of CDS at the moment is less than what it should be, even for a concept stock.
