They are not Robinson Crusoe in trading below cash and receivables. In fact I hold a few shares that are trading well below cash with absolutely no commitments...
Your analogy is good though, and I have this same argument with a mate of mine that just refuses to accept that they are good buys even if they are trading below cash backing.
People are blinkered at the moment.
