I don't think FIRB approval will be a problem, but not so sure about the Defence Department? Can't see them being thrilled about the prospect of the Chinese Government owning land adjoining their base. Given the Aussie defence force relationship with the Americans, I also wouldn't be surprised if the US Government poke their oar in and kindly suggest the Defence force veto the purchase.
