I have done much reasearch regarding SP movements over time, going back many many years and have noted that volatility has increased substantially over the years. It has effected the way one should interpret TA compared to say 50 yrs ago. For example the fib retracement use to work well around the 50% and 61.8% levels, these days i have added an extra retracement at 74.6% as the swings can often exceed the older format. One trade i like to engage in is buying a share that i think is fundamentally ok when the SP is within the 61.8% and the 74.6%. There are other parameters that i use in conjunction with the fib's to try and buy closer to a bottom. Here is an example of a chart of a share i was purchasing on friday last week. In todays market i think we have to try and make volatility our friend and trade accordingly.
