You might get your wish about low cost nickel laterite processing. Direct Nickel having completed their 12 month pilot plant run and are starting to produce estimated processing costs. In the Indonesian environment they are expecting $2-$3/lb Ni processing costs before coproduct credits, with Edison stating for example at Buli coproduct credits could be $1.71/lb Ni for Magnesium Oxide, $1.52/lb Ni for Hematite and $0.90/lb for Cobalt. I would expect the processing costs for HRR using the Direct Nickel technology would be higher because of the lower Nickel grade but if the coproduct credits are similar?
