re: trading halt - merry christmas Tips on cfd trading.
Beware of non-guaranteed stop losses. I had 30k of slx and one quite day the shares plunged 10c on very low vol activating my stop losses. It then recovered the 10c within minutes. The price (according to the trade data) I was stopped out at was BELOW the lowest sale price for the day. I still don't know how that was possible.
If your funds fall below the threshold so that you get a margin call, all of your other holdings with them will be frozen until you have paid the call or the sp goes up. While waiting for funds to arrive so that they could be transfered to IGM, I watched as the sp in another stock fell rapidly one day as someone attempted to active a number of stoploss positions. I nearly lost the lot at a very low price. I now set my stop losses at various prices to prevent this happening. I also do not use stop losses with final numbers - 0 or 5. I use 8 or 3 instead of 0 or 5 i.e. instead of $1.10 I use $1.08
