The main target at Mt Kitty Prospect is wet gas/Helium reservoired in fractured Heavitree Quartzite (basal unit of the late Neoproterozoic sequence) and also possibly in fractured crystalline basement; there is evidence for such at Magee-1 200 km to the east.

A gas flow of 63 MMcfd was recorded from fractured Heavitree Quartzite comprising wet gas and nitrogen together with 6.2% Helium, which is very high by world standards.
Helium is extremely mobile and the regional Gillen Member Salt which blankets the Heavitree provides an excellent seal on a regional scale. Radiogenic crystalline basement provides a source of Helium, also on a regional scale, and hence the widespread presence of a tripartite basement source-reservoir-salt seal system over such a large area is quite unique.
It is noteworthy Helium is recorded at two other stratigraphic levels in the basin, namely the Pioneer Sandstone (Sturtian) in Ooraminna-2 which recorded a Helium content of 0.22% in a gas flow of 150 MMcfd,

while Pacoota-Stairway reservoirs at Palm Valley field contain Helium contents of 0.15% in the gas stream. The area of potential Heavitree-Gillen Member plays exceeds 40,000 km2.

The structure at Mount Kitty, if filled to spill, would cover an area of 229 km2 and would host nearly 3 Tcf of gas resource-in-place. Most production would come from fractures in the Heavitree Quartzite which, if gas saturated, would be subject to fracture stimulation.

The P50 unrisked in-place-gas resource is 1.4 Tcf.

In summation, Central Petroleum holds virtually a whole of basin position in the WA and NT portions of the Amadeus Basin (170,000 km2).
In addition to conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, the basin's unique geological framework presents numerous attractive opportunities for Helium entrapment at several different stratigraphic levels.

However, the main target at Mt Kitty is the Heavitree Quartzite. Helium is a rare and strategically important gas in terms of exploration potential and economic importance, with the intrinsic value of the gas in bulk industrial volumes on the international market being up to 50 times that of domestic sales gas in Australia.

A potential wet gas/helium province in the southern Amadeus Basin will be discussed at the 16–17 CABS 3. To register visit www.pesa.com.au/cabs. - See more at: http://www.pnronline.com.au/article.aspx?p=1&id=706#sthash.W7QSgdAI.dpuf
