"I think retail investors are more likely to dump the shares as soon as allocated ... where as an Insto or sophisticated investor can see the real value in the stock and hold onto it longer term."
You could argue existing retail investors believe in the company and are more likely to hold while SI's are in it for a quick turnaround. If the coy places to instos who already have substantial holdings and have a track record of supporting the coy in the past it would be preferable.
