Hard to say without seeing the algorithms. I assume they use HFT on larger markets such as currency or multi billion dollar market cap stocks to like place trades milli seconds before everyone else. if the algorithm skims a like 0.1 of a percent on 100 billion it is still a lot of money and thus there is a lot of money in it.
