Curiosity drove me to setting up a spreadsheet which tracks the performance of the XAO by date. The data table below presents summaries of points gained / lost for each day of the week as follows:
    1. Dating back to March 6, 2009 [orange fill]
    2. For the 10 weeks prior to today - Dec30, 2009 [yellow]
    3. For the 5 weeks prior to today [green].

Overall Tuesday has produced the greatest increase amd Friday the least. During the last 10 weeks Thursday & Friday have been dominated by selling. These last five weeks [6 for Friday due to Xmas Day] have seen heavy selling on Fridays followed by buying on Monday & Tuesdays.

The data also tells us the XAO has gone nowhere these last 10 weeks.

I am still working on a database approach to this for individual stocks such as BHP.

Of course patterns from the past are not reliable predictors of future patterns - if the XAO's market makers aim for balance by day of the week, the future may be the inverse of the recent past!
