Hence the initial implantation of the BTM to provide a scaffold for the new dermis. I note that they also say that it takes them three weeks to culture sufficient epithelial cells. I understand that it is this step that they need to eliminate so that they can implant a dual layer skin in a single operation.

The problem with this - and it is a big problem - is that the keratinocytes need a dermal layer on which to proliferate. Getting the dermal cells and the epidermal cells to proliferate and self organize into layers simultaneously is going to be a monumental project.

I think everyone can appreciate the significance of what they are trying to accomplish and the impact it could have on burns treatment, but once again I feel compelled to point out that this will be a long and difficult project with guarantee of success.
