Australian share registry firm, Computershare, has forged a joint venture with the UFJ Trust Bank in Japan. The tie-up will handle investor relations and proxy solicitation, but Computershare also hopes that it will eventually deal with share registry management as well. The deal will be effective from October 2005 when UFJ merges with Mitsubishi Trust & Banking Corporation. Computershare already has a presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the Philippines and has been trying to secure a foothold in Japan for some time.
