Chef, I don't understand exactly how this type of trading works and I could be wrong as I don't know the specific example your referring to, however by the sounds of it- its probably a macro trading, or what HC seems to often call "bots".

Generally speaking these bots buy tiny amounts of shares to try maintain a set average and reduce risk of loss for the actual buyer (I have no idea know how much each trade costs them), however it can also be price manipulation or come very close to it, from what ive seen it can stall prices and be a huge pain.

If you backtrack some ways in this forum you willl find we had a lot of issues at one stage with macros forcing the sp down or levelling it out when it should have gone up. Was a while before you bought in from memory.
