wasted - I stand corrected. On checking I see that although Machiavelli said similar things, eg. "he who suits his action to fit the times will prosper" and "if times and affairs change, he is ruined if he does not change his course of action"' it was Keynes who said that one.

I'm disappointed to see that my favourite Keynes quote "The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent" might not have been Keynes either.
