The actual saying is credited to Baron Rothschild, the 18th Century British Nobleman and is "Buy when there is blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own". That's the origins of contrarian investing, the belief that the worse things are in the market, the better the opportunities for profit. I am lead to believe Mr Rothschild made a LOT of money investing this way. Works for some I guess.
