Thought this was a fairly solid FY 20 operational update.

I found it particularly interesting that Traffic stated they have introduced contactless push buttons for pedestrian signals. If you sit on a street corner and observe the behaviour of individuals wishing to cross the road, most of them are incredibly reluctant to touch the shiny metal button, primarily due to COVID-19.

I did a bit of digging around and turns out that the Kingston City Council are trialling the product. The Kingston Mayor made some comments and they shouldn't go un-noticed (https://www.kingston.vic.gov.au/About-Us/Media/Council-trials-touch-free-push-buttons-at-pedestrian-crossing)

“Touch-free pedestrian signals are safer to use than conventional buttons, as they reduce the chances of COVID-19 or any other viruses being transmitted and spread within the Kingston community"

"The technology can be retrofitted into existing hardware, which means that installing it will not require a full replacement of the city’s pedestrian operated traffic signals"

Definitely worth monitoring whether Kingston take up the innovative contactless push buttons. Seems like a no brainer though.

    Well done TTI.
