AP778 impregnation field trial update.
BioProspect Limited (ASX:BPO) and its independent science team from the
University of Western Sydney (UWS) has just completed its first interim inspection of
its large scale field trial using AP778 impregnated timber against termites at
Narrandera New South Wales.
The interim inspection of the Narrandera site showed the site remained undisturbed
and secure with heavy termite activity. The external inspection of the in-ground trial
showed that AP778 impregnated stakes remained intact and untouched. Both the inground
and the hutch trials were performing to the research teams expectations. In
Australia, elevated termite activity occurs seasonally from approximately September
to May. The company will conduct a full internal inspection of the trial at the end of
the termite season to assess AP778’s natural termiticide’s impregnation effects
against termites.
Ongoing impregnation laboratory tests conducted at the Centre for Horticulture and
Plant Science (CHAPS) at UWS’s Hawkesbury campus in NSW show that AP778 is
proving to be an effective barrier to termite attack. Impregnated Eucalyptus regnans
timber stakes that were placed under significant termite pressure have remained
untouched by termites for over six months, whereas the untreated control has been
noticeable attacked.
Success with hardwood timbers like Eucalyptus regnans is encouraging as hardwood
timbers are difficult to impregnate compared with softwood timbers like pine. In
previous laboratory barrier studies, BioProspect had successfully conducted over 216
barrier trails, showing that AP778 controls and repels termites.
