I agree with lindso47 in as much I doubt that what you were charged was a trailing commission. My clear understanding of a trailing commission is thats what a financial adviser would receive, each year, from a managed or similar fund,for having persuaded you to invest your hard earned in that fund, for as long as you continued to invest in that fund. In other words "A bribe"!
I used a financial advier for the first 4 years of our SMSFs life. Slowly I came to realise that he would only recommend certain investments,scotching any ideas that I came up with. Eventually the truth dawned on me and by then I also realised that I could do a better job doing it all by myself. All I needed was a decent accountant to attend to tax returns and other compliance routines.That is THE way to go.
