If you listen to the talks given by Professor Ielmini at AI and neuromorphic computing conferences you will quickly understand that all previous attempts at AI have run into a roadblock created by the limitations of hardware. His approach using re ram is totally different and exciting. In laymen terms he is not trying to mimic a brain synapse with software but instead doing it with hardware. His approach is disruptive much like WBT's.
