I would like to add that another less obvious advantage of patches for medicine application is the prick risk (and I'm not talking about Jabbawock here). Accidental needle pricks or poorly disposed needles by users can present risk. You're not accidentally going to slap on a patch. So I'd venture to sat patches are, in general, much safer too.
