Transforming NT - NEGI

Apparently, two bidders are offering Alice => Moomba and two Tennant Creek => Mt Isa.  Stevens credits RC for making NEGI possible.  He says:

"A federal government serious about avoiding the market dysfunction caused by the coincident start-up of $80 billion of east coast export gas capacity, or about northern economic development, would already have encouraged the pipeline into existence and demanded that it head for Moomba.

"But there are many who posit that the national interest would be better served if the North East Gas Interconnector was pushed through Moomba. One of them is the bloke who stands most willing and able to push gas down the pipeline, the managing director of Central Petroleum, Richard Cottee.

"While professing to be "agnostic" about the pathway, Cottee observed recently that the "prime difference would be that the northern route might favour the Gladstone exporters while the southern link would deliver directly to the key pressure points in the market, while creating the more general liquidity the LNG operators are going to need."

RC might be a rogue for appealing to the national interest, but he does make a valid point that will be listened to by Minister for Norhern Development Josh Frydenberg,

And in choosing to make it, he reveals where CTP's best interests lie.  We await the NEGI announcement with profound interest.
