I reckon it's all to do with the vanadium at Mundaerno. I've read that most vanadium is used to harden steel, but recently they've started using more and more batteries called vanadium redox batteries (VRB) which are a new type of large-scale battery used for alternative energy storage. They can hold more charge and can be charged much quicker.
