Thanks Doc, you have touched on an extremely relevant point.
Lets look back into the not to distant history of DRC and the Katanga Region. You could look back as far as the Belgian Congo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_Congo
There was some conflict there in 1961 involving the UN. It came about as various parties wanted to take control of the mining region around Elisabethville https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubumbashi as it was known back then which was copper mining in the 1920's. Around this time Manono started with it's Tin (Sn) production in 1919 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Jadotville There was even a movie made about the conflict which also sheds some light on Lubumbashi.
Mostly due to the cold war with USA and Russia there was a lot of instability between 1960-65 almost sent the world into another world war!
There is no denying that the region has been engulfed in a lot of conflict over the years. But you need to ask yourselves why? Why all the conflict? The answer is simple. Mineral Resources. Various nations mixing with local inhabitants fighting for control over mining rights. This Katanga region contains an unbelievable amount of mineable minerals such as Copper, Cobalt, Tin, Gold, and now Lithium just to name a few.
Since its discovery in 1912, the Manono deposit in eastern DRC has had periods of mining for tin-tantalum, with first production in 1919, but has never been mined for lithium. Congo-Étain, a DRC government tin mining company, operated the Manono mine until 1995.
This Tantalex report has some relevant information on Manono and is not a cross promotion. https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...NI 43-101 Technical Report 1-24-17[13841].pdf
Summary: Majority of minerals used in todays current technology of smart phones, computers, Electric Vehicles comes from the Congo. Many nations have had mining interests in DRC for a 100 years. Manono will be mined again. That part in undeniable. With the Scoping Study out soon the economics of this vast asset will be a known quantifiable resource. My hopes are that AVZ will impart health and wellbeing to the Congolese and improve their life and lifestyle. We see it life improvements here in Australia from mining so there is no reason why they cannot attain the same!
