Because the alternative is simply someone supportive of management changed their opinion as more and more evidence came to light and scandal and scandal was unvielded. I don't want to put words in chillingout's mouth, but I am fairly sure Karantzis not even bothering to show up to court and defend himself was the capstone that sealed the change of opinion.
