there is no determinate of a triangle breakout direction but what is a key indicator is the volume on the peak and troughs. Murphy (1999) indicates that weaker volume on troughs and heavier volume on peaks is a key indicator, and then heavier volume on the breakout is also another key indicator. He also mentions waiting for a couple of days for a breakout confirmation....

If you take a look at the BBG chart last few weeks you will see why....the last few days excluding today appeared like a breakout.....doesn't look like it will eventuate.....spew'n
