Advantages that would be lost by having power generation on a floating platform are:

    1. Visual - no longer would all offshore components be hidden from view.

    2. Generator is exposed to a higher risk of storm damage and exposure to elements.

    3. Desalination process either cancelled or made more difficult.

    4. Maintenance and breakdown rectification harder to do and less accessible.

However, these disadvantages would not necessarily mean that a floating generation and desalination option would not be considered. Taffyjukes alluded to the possibility of adapting the technology for use in offshore oil and gas rigs requiring large amounts of freshwater for the extraction process. That could be done.

Similarly, a relocatable plant could be used in locations needing temporary supplies of energy and freshwater ie disaster relief, humanitarian relief, military operations, etc.

Versatility is the greatest advantage that this technology has over any of it's competitors. No doubt many more applications will become apparent after it gets going.
