Wyon, Initially I considered that since Cochlea Batteries were in an external device so FDA 510(K) may not be necessary. However, on reading Cochlea's advice on using rechargeable batteries & overheating cautionary notes, a change in battery composition may require some sort of rewiew. The weight of Lithium is a determinant.
