While rebuilding an old motor I pulled out some old spark plugs from the head, some AC some Champion
I thought some may be interested in the story of Champion and how it became AC.......
GM America incorporated in 1908 had a knock on the door of Albert Champion in the same year, wanting to sell his wares.
A French bicycle racing champ turned motor racer with interest in ignition started his own magneto and sparking plug business. Durant gave him a start but wanted the name Champion on the plug, as they were cheap and of exceptional quality, Champion's backers said no. Not to be taken back by that, the AC (Albert Champion) ignition company became part of the GM. In the first week of production the plugs saved the company $100.00.
I haven't seen AC on anything (new) for a while, I guess they are non existent now. (GMH products)
The story is a bit more complex than that, but that's the crux.
