TROG Radiotherapy Trial

THIS is the trial that will show whether Graham Kelly's response is repeatable.  Key points:

NOX66 used for two weeks only
Starts one day before radiotherapy
Early start will weaken cancer cells before low-dose radiotherapy starts
Ends one week after radiotherapy
Extra week designed to prevent DNA repair by damaged cells - per previous announcements
Palliative radiotherapy for one week only
Scanned before treatment starts
Scanned after 12 weeks
Scanned after 24 weeks
Dose escalation
400 mg that has already benefited patients in Georgia
800 mg that is now being used in Georgia per ESMO poster
1200 mg, which suggests that the responses in Georgia might be dose-related
24 patients
12 in the first group, 4 each at 400 mg, 800 mg and 1200 mg
First patient starts end of October
First group finishes treatment about end of December
12 added after a safety review of first group of 12
Presumably will use most effective dose of NOX66 from first group
Expected to be fully enrolled by end of March 2018
Primary tumours
Directly targeted by seven days of low-dose radiation
Aiming for long term complete remission
Secondary tumours
If non-irradiated tumours shrink, will show that ABSCOPAL effect can be achieved
This must be linked to NOX66 in some way
Would open up treatment options for patients with widespread cancer nodes that could not be individually irradiated
Third prostate trial
The announcement said that another trial had been cleared for recruitment by a hospital HREC committee
This must be the proposed brachytherapy trial at St Vincent's
