I don't place much faith in what a company director says. Their interest and mine don't always align. If you like to invest in a contrarian manner waiting for a dead period like this after a negative announcement is good setup. Of course there is nothing to keep the shares from sliding endlessly to oblivion from here but there is also nothing preventing the surprise positive news from coming.
