Only thing more terrifying for Qantas is - SQ buying Virgin Australia.

Singapore Airlines has long wanted to fly AUS-USA but Aust government has knocked back. By buying VA they would pick up these rights via VA and as a bonus all the feeder domestic traffic for their Asian /Middle East and European network.

Watch this space.

I also think it would be attractive for Air NZ but after getting their nose well and truly bloodies losing around AUD$800 million with Ansett failing, think they wold be reluctant to try again. They werein such a bad shape after the Ansett failure the NZ Government had to recapitalise them to keep them operating.
