Totally agree, it's a positive and negative....negative for the reasons you mentioned above and positive because we were at least able to passively participate. Even allowing zoom interaction between questioner and responder would have meant that there could have been the chance for a follow up question.
(12 months time, if there is no finance in place, I think we charter a plane from the east coast and descend on the meeting on mass!!)
