Your excise of $20 on a 500ml bottle of circa 40% ABV is close enough, and is captured in the RRP sure.. ($87 or so per litre of alcohol I think).. Worth noting that aus excise is not payable on exports.
Fair point re the lower ABV releases and expectation from higher priced / premium offerings. 40-42% is pretty much just for the classic and the blended offerings. Will be hard pressed to find any other releases sub 50% I would have thought.
Can cut it a number of different ways, the NSV does check out - but it isn't sustainable (everyone can agree on that I'd think).
Ultimately Mr. Market is implying that the inventory is worth about as much as a bottle of JD. Time will tell... Bring on the Qtly..
