yes and Howard was said by journos and economists to have engineered the highest taxing Gov revenue in Aus history.
then came the GFC - a potential for crippling the economy for years as it did in many countries.....
but what was significant was the Abbott mob getting in on the cry of debt and deficit disaster, then setting about decreasing revenue and increasing costs by sacking 15,000 PSs and hiring "consultants" which cost Gov 3x the supposed savings. then the spending, wanton waste and economic wrecking rorts and scams by the consultants and fraud.
do note the slight dip in debt while the carbon price was functioning. GHG emissions fell 10% during the 2 years of its influence and rose straight back up to higher than the pre carbon price period.
also note the control of spending during the Gillard years and the increase in spending during Abbott's tenure. Frydenberg was the only fed LNP Gov treasurer to reduce spending.
