diligent - I should have said 'new focus' - the N.K. story is long and the story of dealing with it has always been: threat, counter-threat, or with the wiser presidents: threat - offer of some carrot, threat reduced. I believe - and some posters have pointed this out here as well, that China has an interest in keeping N.K. just the way it is, saves them from spending money on nuclear armaments. The aggressor in that area have always been the Americans and us - the West - for no good reason, except ideological ones - AND we lost, please remember that.
With China being our trading partner and getting richer and more self-confident, we need to think very carefully of exactly what we object to in that area IMO the illegal enlarging and extending of islands in the China Sea would be a legitimate point for diplomatic conversation and the odd patrol, but simply ignore N.K.'s posturing or offer them some leeway in the form of trade - they are China's security against the West. I am sure the reports about the ordinary person suffering from food shortages in N.K. are true, perhaps not to the extent of cannibalism, as has been reported, but being a communist state, I am sure it suffers from the same imbalances which all former communist countries have suffered, only more so, because so much money is being poured into the military.
We are living in a dangerous world right now, made more dangerous by a president who is floundering and thinks that stuff that goes 'booom' is an easy way to govern and to get respect; some posters on here think the same - too much Hollywood violence is bad for all our health, guys!
But what would I know - perhaps the Trump card, being a total dumb card is a game changer after all - I just don't want nuclear clouds wafting into our backyards here in Australia AND make no mistake, this time we will all be affected. The Americans definitely deserve a bit of their own medicine so they know what they are dishing out so readily, but the rest of the allies do not, as they have been bullied along into each of the Americans' initially unilateral actions.
