There are some scientists who believe that Mount Sinai was a volcano, since it emitted fire and smoke in the Exodus narrative in the Bible. Some have pointed to Mount Bedr in north-western Saudi Arabia as a possible candidate for the ancient Mount Sinai, as there are no volcanoes on the Sinai peninsula.
