" Congressional leaders have finally hammered out a bicameral tax bill, and it's loaded with good news for the drug industry.

As STAT's Erin Mershon points out, pharma is getting the repatriation tax break it has repeatedly requested. The new bill lowers the cost of bringing overseas cash home from 35 percent to 15.5 percent. Analysts widely expect the likes of Pfizer and Amgen, who have billions offshore, to soon put those dollars to use on domestic acquisition.

The industry got mixed news on the orphan drug tax credit. On the upside, it still exists. On the downside, it got cut in half, meaning that if the bill passes as expected, drug companies will only be able to deduct 25 percent of the costs of developing an orphan product."
