The problem with your take on it is that Trump and his cronies are on record again and again, denouncing as “fake news” reports that are impeccably sourced with incontrovertible evidence. Heck, even reports that directly quote his own words from recordings.
Trump is just going the way of autocratic dictators and con-artists everywhere: taking aim not at the truth, but at the very concept of truth: there is no real truth, everyone (else) is lying to you, so you may as well just go ahead and believe whatever you want (me). If you can’t see that you’re blind, imho.
